Cinema

The world of cinema is a vast one that encompasses the multimillion dollar blockbusters of Hollywood with the independent releases showcased around the world.

Some of the biggest names in the world can thank their lucky stars for cinema, with the likes of Nicolas Cage, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Samuel L Jackson, Daniel Craig, Will Smith and Natalie Portman all amongst those who have paved a successful career in the industry.

Cinema manages to draw in big crowds, all ready to witness the latest releases that could be the next “Star Wars” or the next “Godfather” trilogy, with massive franchises continuing to find its fans, whether it is the James Bond series or the Indiana Jones movies.

This is because cinema has a hold on the culture we inhabit, with the biggest influence on our fashion styles and social practices dictated by what we see in movies. This is why the biggest cultural artefacts of our times are derived from movies such as “Star Wars”, “Ghostbusters”, “Pulp Fiction”, “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, “Fight Club”, “Face/Off”, “Die Hard”, “Aliens”, “2001: A Space Odyssey”, “Bladerunner” and many more. This is showing no signs of changing either, with many cinema releases from recent years still managing to make the headlines, either for the notoriety of the stars involved or the enormous successful that they have felt, whether it’s the latest Batman film “The Dark Knight” or the recent “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies.

Their influence can also be seen by the way in which successful products from other media will inevitably become films. The mentioned “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies are based on a theme park ride, whilst the success of the “Harry Potter” books made a subsequent film adaptation all the more possible, with these cinema releases being the talk of the town upon their arrival onscreen.

Cinema will always be around to provide us with great spectacle, though the future could see a lot of changes. Cinema is currently said to be going through a revolution, which is often compared to the transition from black and white film to colour. This new revolution is 3D; not a new concept, but one that finally seems to have found its place, with many movies utilising band new stereoscopic technology to truly immerse audiences into the screen. Movies such as “Beowulf” have already done this and upcoming films like James Cameron’s “Avatar” will only increase its popularity
